Maranello, 17 october 2025 – Today, the veil was lifted on a new Ferrari One-Off model from the Special Projects programme: the Ferrari SC40. Designed by Ferrari’s Styling Centre under the direction of Flavio Manzoni, the SC40 is a mid-rear-engined V6 that takes its architecture, chassis, and powertrain from the 296 GTB. The Ferrari SC40 thus joins the most exclusive segment of the range — that of unique, tailor-made cars, designed and built around the desires of a single client, representing the highest expression of Ferrari’s personalisation philosophy.
The car’s name pays tribute to the F40, the legendary Ferrari supercar unveiled in July 1987. The SC40 echoes its sharp, angular lines, which are skillfully combined with softer surface transitions, giving the car a contemporary feel and a strong, unmistakable identity.
The SC40 is an entirely new and unique design. The “SC40” script engraved in relief on the side of the wing is a clear homage to the iconic Ferrari supercar, yet the goal was not to create a literal reinterpretation, but rather a model with its own distinct personality.
The styling theme draws inspiration from industrial design, defined by precise geometries and muscular, squared volumes. The proportions feature a long, low nose balanced by a short rear overhang and a high, fixed rear wing — painted in the car’s bespoke SC40 White — which flows from the body’s flanks. The fixed wing extends vertically from the engine cover and merges seamlessly with it, highlighted by a black separation line that enhances the black rear fascia. This area is composed of an open mesh revealing the mechanical and structural components beneath. The V6 engine is showcased through distinctive, smoked Lexan® louvres, which connect visually to the lower air intake and are echoed by smaller louvres carved into the muscular rear wings near the wheelarches. The sculpted rear section is completed by a central exhaust produced in additive manufacturing and featuring titanium and carbon-fibre tips, and by taillights that clearly hint at the 296 GTB which the car is based on.
The side view is dominated by the intercooler air intakes — a reinterpretation of the classic NACA duct accentuated by a large triangular carbon-fibre plate. The visual rhythm of the design is defined by vertical lines that precisely outline the crisp edges of the front wings, door cuts, and engine cover. These vertical strokes form a subtle underlying grid, structuring the car’s visual tension almost like a musical score.
At the front, the design is strongly characterised by the headlights placed at the outer corners, integrated into a black housing that extends downwards to connect with the lower air intake. This intake spans the entire front bumper, giving the car a striking, assertive appearance, further emphasised by two rectangular frames outlining the redesigned brake air intakes, above which sit the daytime running lights.
Inside, particular attention was given to the use of Kevlar, a material that strongly recalls the F40. The carbon-Kevlar has been reinterpreted and redeveloped for this project, and features in the footwells, behind the seats, and on parts of the floor mats. This distinctive material is also used for the steering wheel, some dashboard inserts, the engine bay, and the luggage compartment. The upholstery features a combination of Charcoal Alcantara® and a red Jacquard technical fabric, while the Prancing Horse on the headrests and the woven SC40 logo give the seats a contemporary and exclusive look.
The SC40 White exterior colour, developed specifically for this car, features a cool hue that accentuates the body’s curves in sunlight, recalling the colour of the carbon-Kevlar used inside. The SC40 logo appears only on the right side of the car, while the fuel filler and charging caps are made of aluminium with a brushed finish. The Ferrari lettering, rendered in negative on the rear engine cover, reveals the carbon beneath. The wheels, designed exclusively for this model, combine brushed metal on the diamond-cut surfaces with black spokes that emphasise their geometric form.
A styling buck of the car will be on display at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello starting Saturday, October 18.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
The Special Projects programme is aimed at creating unique Ferraris (so-called “One-Offs”) characterised by an exclusive design crafted to the requirements of the client, who thus becomes the owner of a one-of-a-kind model. Each project originates from an idea put forward by the client and is developed hand-in-glove with a team of designers from Ferrari’s Styling Centre. Once the car’s proportion and forms have been defined, detailed design blueprints and a styling buck are produced before the manufacturing process for the new One-Off begins. The entire process takes around two years on average, during which time the client is closely involved in assessing the design and verification phases. The result? A unique Ferrari sporting the Prancing Horse logo and engineered to the same standards of excellence that characterise all of Maranello’s cars.
