PLANO, Texas (July 12, 2024) – A blast from the past is returning for the 2025 model year with the Toyota GR86 Hakone special edition, paying tribute to Japan's Hakone Turnpike. Built off the GR86 Premium grade, it features a Ridge Green exterior, 18-inch satin bronze-finished wheels, a duck-tail spoiler, black accents, and a Hakone badge.

Powered by a 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder boxer engine with 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft., it offers a choice of six-speed manual or automatic transmission. Inside, it boasts Ultrasuede® sport seats with tan leather trim, a bronze-accented shift knob, and a GR special edition plaque.

Standard features include Brembo® Brakes and SACHS Dampers. Limited to 860 units in the U.S., it will arrive at dealerships in Fall 2024. Pricing for the GR86 Hakone and the 2025 lineup will be announced later this year.

TOYOTA GAZOO RACING INSPIRED DRIVING PERFORMANCE
The GR engineering team constantly incorporates lessons from the track into their cars. For 2025, the GR86 has received several upgrades:
i. Shock Absorbers: Re-tuned for better handling and ground contact.
ii. Trottle Mapping: Adjusted for easier "blipping" during heel-toe downshifts.
iii. Engine Torque Control: Provides a more direct and linear throttle response, improving control at all speeds.
iv. Electric Power Steering: Re-tuned for more responsive handling and better road feel.

GR86 Hakone Special Edition
The GR86 Hakone special edition includes:
i. SACHS Dampers: Filled with high-pressure nitrogen and oil to absorb vibrations, maximize ground contact, and support stable steering, while balancing road feedback and ride comfort.
ii. Brembo® Brakes: Features red-painted 4-piston front and 2-piston rear brake calipers, with 12.8 x 1.3-inch front rotors and 12.4 x .79-inch rear rotors. The brake pad area is 11.6 square inches in the front and 4.9 square inches in the rear.
A Performance Package with these features is also available for other 2025 GR86 models.

Chassis and Frame
The GR86's chassis is known for its responsive feel. It is made from high-strength steel, hot-stamped steel, and aluminum, strategically placed to enhance control:
i. Front: Diagonal cross members and high-strength fasteners join the front suspension and frame.
ii. Rear: A full ring structure and high-strength fasteners connect the frame and suspension mounts.
iii. Additional Reinforcement: Structural adhesive throughout the underbody for a cohesive, connected frame.

LIGHTWEIGHT AND FUN
All GR86 models pack in modern engineering, tech, and convenience – while sticking to the lightweight sports car roots.

Lightweight Design
The GR86 is one of the lightest sports cars on the market, weighing 2,811 pounds for the manual version and 2,851 pounds for the automatic. Its aluminum hood, front fenders, and roof panel reduce weight. Structural adhesives and lighter seats save additional weight, enhancing control.

Powerful Engine
The 2.4-liter FA-24 engine produces 228 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, with peak torque at 3,700 RPM for a responsive drive. It accelerates from 0-60 mph in 6.1 seconds (manual) and 6.6 seconds (automatic). Both versions feature a Torsen® limited-slip rear differential for better traction.

Transmission Options
The GR86 offers a 6-speed manual transmission with Track mode and VSC off options. The automatic version has additional clutch discs and a high-capacity torque converter for smooth power delivery. Paddle shifters and a manual downshift mode enhance the driving experience, with Normal, Sport, and Snow modes available.

Interior Features
The GR86 interior includes a driver-focused cockpit, digital instrument panel, push-button start, LED HVAC controls, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio controls. The automatic model features paddle shifters. An 8-inch touchscreen multimedia system with a six-speaker audio system is standard, with an eight-speaker system on higher grades.

Seating
The Premium grade offers Ultrasuede® and leather-trim seats with black stitching, six-way adjustable front seats, and two-level heating. The Base grade has six-way adjustable black G-embossed fabric seats with sport fabric side bolsters. Rear seats feature Ultrasuede trim on the Premium and sport fabric on the Base grade.

Safety Features
All Toyota GR86 models come with an Active Safety Suite:
i. Automatic Transmission Models: Include Pre-Collision Braking, Pre-Collision Throttle Management, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Sway Warning, and Automatic High Beams.
ii. Manual Transmission Models: Include Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure and Sway Warning, Lead Vehicle Start Alert, and Rear Sonar Warning.

i. Warranty: 36-month/36,000-mile basic new-vehicle warranty, 60-month/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, and 60-month corrosion warranty with no mileage limit.
