08.10.2024 - Rolls-Royce Motor Cars presents Ghost Series II, a powerful, driver-orientated and elegant rendition of the most popular Rolls-Royce nameplate in history. In line with client requests, the subtle evolution of Ghost’s monolithic and self-assured external appearance serves as a potent stage for Bespoke commissions. To extend their choices, clients now have access to interior finishes and features never previously available on Ghost, as well as advanced software technologies that see Bespoke enter the digital world.

BACKGROUND
The Rolls-Royce Ghost is a key model from the Goodwood era, introduced in 2009 to attract a younger, more versatile luxury consumer than those drawn to the Phantom. These clients wanted a more approachable, customizable model that reflected their personal style through Bespoke options.

The second-generation Ghost, launched in 2020, refined these principles with a sleek design that concealed advanced engineering and craftsmanship, making it the most technologically sophisticated V12 Rolls-Royce at the time. Its innovations included the Planar Suspension System, which took 10 years to develop and delivered an unmatched smooth driving experience. With a 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine, all-wheel steering, and four-wheel drive, the Ghost was seen as a dynamic and driver-focused grand tourer.

Customers embraced the opportunity to personalize their Ghosts, investing about 10% of the purchase price in Bespoke features. The 2020 Ghost's design encouraged both understated elegance and bold expressions of luxury, contributing to a trend known as ‘quiet luxury.’

When updating the Ghost for the Series II, Rolls-Royce consulted with its clients, focusing on maintaining its appeal as a platform for both personalization and performance, resulting in subtle yet significant design and engineering improvements.

GHOST SERIES II: EXTERIOR
The Ghost Series II embraces Rolls-Royce’s monolithic design style, featuring a clean front with an illuminated Pantheon grille, a hallmark of the brand. Updated headlights and daytime running lights extend from the grille, emphasizing its 2148mm width, while new chrome details create a ‘floating’ effect beneath the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot.

The rear design includes a new tail lamp setup, inspired by the Spectre, with two vertical light panels framed by a curved chrome element engraved with the double ‘R’ monogram.

Clients can choose between two new 22-inch, 9-spoke wheel designs—fully or part-polished—that enhance the Ghost Series II’s modern, elegant look.

GHOST SERIES II: A NEW MOOD CREATED THROUGH COLOUR
The Ghost Series II introduces a new exterior color, Mustique Blue, inspired by the Caribbean island's vibrant hues. This metallic finish uses glass and mica flakes to create a shimmering effect, reminiscent of sunlight on tropical waters.

This shade also pays homage to the 1929 Phantom II Continental prototype, one of Rolls-Royce's first driver-focused models, which featured a similar blue tone. Created for Henry Royce's personal use, it was among the first cars to use pearlescent paint, originally made from ground fish scales, and won the ‘Prix d’Honneur’ at the 1930 Biarritz Concours d’Elegance.

GHOST SERIES II: INTERIOR
The Ghost Series II interior blends traditional craftsmanship with modern technology. The new glass-panelled Central Information Display features an advanced operating system, allowing clients to customize digital instrument dial colors to match the car's interior or exterior. SPIRIT, the system’s interface, integrates Whispers, the Rolls-Royce private members app, enabling remote control of the car’s location, locks, and navigation.

Entertainment upgrades include the ability for rear-seat passengers to connect two streaming devices independently, control seating functions, and pair any Bluetooth® headphones. An enhanced Wi-Fi® hotspot and discreet USB-C® charging ports ensure seamless connectivity for all occupants.

GHOST SERIES II: AN UNRIVALED SOUNDSTAGE
The Ghost Series II offers unparalleled sound quality with an enhanced 18-speaker audio system and a 1400-watt amplifier. It uses the car's aluminum sill cavities as resonance chambers, turning the lower structure into a powerful, floor-standing speaker.

For the Bespoke Audio System, two ‘speakerless’ exciters are bonded to the Headliner, creating a unique overhead sound stage. When paired with the Starlight Headliner, special acoustic membranes compress the fiberoptic cables to prevent vibrations and direct sound into the cabin. Additionally, two active microphones adjust the audio balance in real-time for optimal sound quality.

GHOST SERIES II: NEW EXPRESSIONS OF CONTEMPORARY CRAFT
The Ghost Series II highlights advanced craftsmanship with features like the Spirit of Ecstasy Clock Cabinet, which includes an illuminated figurine and analogue clock, creating a reflective display. It also features the Illuminated Fascia, inspired by celestial movements, allowing for bespoke designs.

New materials include Grey Stained Ash, a hand-stained wood with a shimmering finish, and Duality Twill, a bamboo-based fabric inspired by the Côte d’Azur. Crafting a Duality Twill interior involves millions of stitches, offering three base colors and 51 thread hues.

Clients can also choose Placed Perforation, creating detailed designs on seat leather with up to 107,000 precise perforations, inspired by cloud patterns over the Rolls-Royce Goodwood estate.

GHOST SERIES II: ENGINEERING
The Ghost Series II features a powerful 6.75-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine paired with an eight-speed gearbox, driving all-wheel steering and an all-wheel drivetrain. Maximum torque is achieved at just 1,600rpm, delivering the signature smooth "waftability" of Rolls-Royce.

Its advanced Planar Suspension System includes an Upper Wishbone Damper, electronically controlled shock absorbers, and self-leveling air struts for a stable, "magic carpet ride." The Flagbearer System, with road-reading cameras, and Satellite Aided Transmission, using GPS for optimal gear selection, ensure seamless adaptability and precision on all road conditions.

GHOST SERIES II: EXTENDED SERIES II: AN EVEN GREATER CANVAS FOR CREATIVITY
The Ghost Extended Series II offers 170mm of additional rear seating space, achieved by extending the rear doors while maintaining its sleek design. Clients can enhance this space with the Serenity Seating, reminiscent of a private jet cabin, and an optional Champagne cooler with two modes—six degrees Celsius for non-vintage and 11 degrees for vintage Champagne, based on input from a Master Sommelier. Despite the extra space, the Ghost Extended retains its dynamic driving experience, appealing to those who prefer self-driving while enjoying the luxury of an expanded rear suite.

GHOST SERIES II: POTENCY AND INFINITE BESPOKE POTENTIAL
Since its launch in 2009, Ghost has embodied the essence of Rolls-Royce’s Goodwood era, reflecting clients’ interest in intricate and diverse Bespoke commissions. To meet this demand, Rolls-Royce is expanding its global network of Private Offices, allowing clients to collaborate with Designers and Bespoke specialists in their regions. The marque has also secured planning permission for a significant extension at its Goodwood facility to enhance Bespoke craftsmanship and technology.

Today's Rolls-Royce clients seek a driving experience that combines potency and agility with composure and serenity. Ghost Series II achieves this balance flawlessly, ensuring it remains a superlative and powerful super-luxury vehicle without compromising its identity.
