BMW has unveiled the first series-produced Neue Klasse model, the fully electric iX3 SAV, marking a new era of Sheer Driving Pleasure. With sixth-gen eDrive tech, it offers up to 805 km (500 miles) range, 400 kW charging, and 345 kW/469 hp with AWD. Its advanced electronics with four “superbrain” computers, the “Heart of Joy” drivetrain, automated driving, and BMW Panoramic iDrive redefine performance and digital experience. A sustainability strategy cuts lifecycle CO₂ emissions by over 30% versus its predecessor.

Production starts autumn 2025 in Debrecen, Hungary, with market launch in spring 2026 (Europe) and summer 2026 (USA), plus a China-specific version from Shenyang. More than a model renewal, the iX3 represents a leap in design and tech, spearheading BMW’s transformation in electrification, digitalisation, and circularity, with Neue Klasse innovations set to expand to 40 models by 2027.

Launch of the new design language: reduced, characterful and timeless.
The new BMW iX3 debuts a modern design language that will define future BMW models, blending timeless brand identity with contemporary form. Its clear lines and proportions reflect the values of the Neue Klasse, while aerodynamic optimisation delivers a drag coefficient of 0.24. As the first BMW X model of the new generation, it emphasises space and lifestyle, measuring 4,782 mm long, 1,895 mm wide, and 1,635 mm tall.

Practicality includes a load capacity expandable from 520 to 1,750 litres, a 58-litre front storage space, and an optional tow hitch supporting up to 2,000 kilograms. The upright front end, vertical kidney grilles inspired by the 1960s Neue Klasse, and new light signature enhance its presence, while flush glazing, clean side surfaces, and wide taillights give the iX3 a sleek yet athletic character.

Interior design: modern space has a BMW-typical driver focus and offers exceptional comfort for all passengers.
The BMW iX3 interior blends modern design, driver focus, and EV-specific spaciousness. A floating fabric-trimmed instrument panel with backlighting, wrap-around lines, and large windows creates a warm, airy feel, complemented by the optional panoramic sunroof. Panoramic iDrive with Operating System X unites displays, controls, and sound into a customisable digital experience with HypersonX audio, while minimalist seats, a new steering wheel, and centre console balance comfort and sportiness.

Personalisation options include Essential, Veganza, M, and BMW Individual interiors, with M Sport packages adding dynamic features. The BMW Iconic Glow package enhances the experience with light and sound effects, including a personalised welcome animation.

BMW Panoramic iDrive: consummate driver focus, BMW-style.
The BMW iX3 debuts Panoramic iDrive, blending digital and physical controls for a more intuitive driving experience while keeping BMW’s “hands on the wheel, eyes on the road” principle. Essential functions use physical buttons, while others are managed by touch, voice, or steering-wheel controls. Key elements include BMW Panoramic Vision across the windscreen, an optional 3D Head-Up Display, a free-cut Central Display, and a multifunction steering wheel. The upgraded BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant adds new voices, proactive suggestions, and will later integrate LLM technology for natural interaction.

Powered by BMW Operating System X, Panoramic iDrive offers personalisation, connectivity, and over-the-air updates. Standard BMW Maps optimises charging routes, and BMW Digital Key Plus supports major devices. Entertainment includes streaming, gaming, and apps like Disney+, YouTube, and Zoom, with more available via the ConnectedDrive Store and BMW Digital Premium. These innovations enhance convenience, interaction, and digital entertainment for drivers and passengers alike.

Sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology: higher efficiency, more range, faster charging.
Sixth-generation BMW eDrive brings more efficient motors, cylindrical-cell batteries, and 800V tech. In the iX3 50 xDrive, twin motors produce 345 kW/469 hp and 645 Nm, reaching 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds with a 210 km/h top speed. Its rear EESM and front ASM reduce energy loss by 40%, weight by 10%, and costs by 20% versus the previous generation.

The new cylindrical-cell battery boosts energy density by 20% and charging speed by 30%. Integrated “cell to pack” and structural “pack to open body” designs cut weight and improve efficiency. With 108.7 kWh usable capacity, the iX3 achieves up to 805 km (500 miles) WLTP range.

BMW Charging: short charging times, premiere for bidirectional charging.
The sixth-generation BMW eDrive system revolutionises charging with 400 kW capability, adding 372 km (231 miles) in 10 minutes and charging 10–80% in 21 minutes. It supports 800V and 400V DC stations, with AC charging at 11 kW standard or 22 kW optional.

Bidirectional functions include Vehicle-to-Load for powering devices, Vehicle-to-Home for solar energy storage, and Vehicle-to-Grid for feeding power back to the grid. New accessories such as the Multifunction Charger, BMW Wallbox Professional, and solar-optimised BMW Charging expand flexibility. AI-powered charging flaps, real-time app monitoring, and Plug & Charge Multi Contract for up to ten providers complete the experience.

Heart of Joy: Sheer Driving Pleasure reaches a new level.
The “Heart of Joy,” one of four superbrains in the Neue Klasse electronics architecture, manages drivetrain, brakes, energy recuperation, and steering with processing speeds up to ten times faster than conventional control units. This maximises the benefits of electric mobility, delivering instant power, smooth transfer, agility, stability, and efficiency.

Paired with BMW’s in-house Dynamic Performance Control software, it calculates driving dynamics with unmatched speed and precision, ensuring the hallmark BMW feel in every situation. Responses to accelerator, brake, and steering inputs are immediate and precise, while features like supreme traction and the unique Soft Stop function enhance comfort. Efficiency is further optimised by integrating drivetrain, braking, and recuperation management—enabling 98% of everyday braking to be handled through recuperation alone.

“Superbrain of automated driving” for the driver assistance systems with new-generation technology.
Another high-performance computer brings together all the automated driving and parking functions in the BMW iX3. With 20 times greater processing power than conventional control units, the “superbrain of automated driving” enables a significant technological advance with the Neue Klasse in this area as well.

BMW Symbiotic Drive provides seamless support.
The BMW iX3 introduces Symbiotic Drive, where driver inputs for acceleration, braking, and steering blend seamlessly with AI-enabled software to deliver a new level of Sheer Driving Pleasure. Many driver assistance functions come standard, such as adaptive cruise control that stays active during light braking and lane control assistance that remains engaged even after minor steering inputs.

Enhanced features include the BMW Motorway Assistant, which allows hands-free driving for extended periods, and the City Assistant, which recognises traffic lights to automatically stop and move off again—making everyday driving smoother and more intuitive.

New electronics architecture with four “superbrains”.
The BMW iX3 features a completely new electronics architecture built around four high-performance “superbrains” that manage driving dynamics, automated driving, infotainment, and comfort functions. This foundation supports a continuously upgradeable software system, future AI features, and enhanced connectivity with the My BMW App.

Its digital nervous system uses a zoned wiring harness that cuts weight by 30% and reduces wiring by 600 metres. New smart eFuses replace traditional fuses, enabling intelligent power modes that boost efficiency. Together, these advances make the iX3 a fully software-defined vehicle, future-ready and capable of evolving through continuous updates.

Equipment and individualisation to enhance driving pleasure, comfort and versatility.
At launch, the BMW iX3 will be offered in one solid and five metallic paint finishes, with standard 20-inch light-alloy wheels and optional 20-, 21-, or 22-inch alternatives, including BMW M, BMW Individual, and aerodynamically optimised Air Performance designs. Interior choices span Essential, Contemporary, M Sport, and BMW Individual design worlds, with heated, electrically adjustable front seats as standard. Options include M Sport or multifunction seats, plus sports or M steering wheels.

Standard features on the iX3 50 xDrive include two-zone automatic climate control, Comfort Access, power tailgate, extended mirror package, alarm system, and wireless charging. Options extend to three-zone climate control, adaptive headlights, BMW Iconic Glow illuminated kidneys, Harman Kardon audio with 13 speakers, heated steering wheel, and a large panoramic sunroof with climate comfort glazing, solar filtering, and full UV protection.

Holistic sustainability approach targeting circularity and CO2e reduction.
The new BMW iX3 applies “Design for Circularity” to cut its life cycle carbon footprint by 34% compared to its predecessor. It outperforms combustion models after 21,500 km on the EU energy mix—or just 17,500 km on renewables—often within a year. Around one-third of the car uses secondary raw materials, including recycled marine plastic, 100% recycled PET textiles, and high secondary aluminium content in chassis parts and wheels.

Its supply chain footprint is reduced by 35%, while production at BMW Plant Debrecen operates fossil-free under normal conditions. Sixth-generation BMW eDrive and EfficientDynamics also cut energy consumption by 20%.
