Hyundai Motor Company unveiled the IONIQ 9, a three-row all-electric SUV with a spacious interior, advanced design, and innovative EV technology. The reveal took place at the Goldstein House in LA, highlighting Hyundai's commitment to innovation in the EV market. The IONIQ 9 is part of Hyundai’s goal to offer 23 EV models by 2030, following the success of the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6, which won World Car of the Year Awards in 2022 and 2023.

The event featured a keynote by José Muñoz, Hyundai’s President and COO, and included a discussion on IONIQ 9’s design and space. With a capacity for up to seven passengers, IONIQ 9 is aimed at consumers seeking a spacious, hyper-connected, and private electric vehicle that offers both relaxation and togetherness.

SERENE, SPACIOUS INTERIOR PROVIDES AN UNPARALLELED EV EXPERIENCE
The IONIQ 9 offers spacious second- and third-row seating with a lounge-like atmosphere, featuring elliptical design and natural light from the Panoramic Sunroof. It seats six or seven with fully reclining Relaxation Seats in the first and second rows, offering 1,899 mm of headroom and 2,050 mm of legroom.

The Dynamic Body Care system in the Relaxation Seats improves comfort with a Dynamic Touch Massage, and the second-row Swiveling Seats enhance interaction by allowing passengers to face each other. The slidable Universal Island 2.0 console provides 5.6 liters of storage in the upper tray and 12.6 liters in the lower tray.

With the third-row seats folded, the trunk offers 1,323 liters of space, and with all seats in place, 620 liters. The front trunk offers 88 liters for RWD models and 52 liters for AWD models. Sustainable materials like Eco Process Leather and Bio Paint are used in the interior, which features a panoramic curved display, floating dashboard, and ambient lighting.

The sleek ‘Aerosthetic’ exterior includes Parametric Pixels, a smooth roofline with a low drag coefficient of 0.259 Cd, and digital side mirrors. Aerodynamic efficiency is boosted by a dual-motion air flap, aerodynamic wheels, and hidden antennas. The IONIQ 9 has the longest wheelbase of any Hyundai model, offering a spacious cabin. The rear design, inspired by a boat tail, enhances aerodynamics, while the clean, minimalistic look eliminates the roof antenna.

Exterior lighting features Parametric Pixel lamps, cube projection headlights, and intelligent front lighting. It offers 19-21 inch wheels and 16 color options, including Celadon Gray Matte and Cosmic Blue Pearl. Inside, trim options include Obsidian Black and six two-tone combinations.

ENHANCED POWER ELECTRONICS ENABLE ADVANCED EV CAPABILITIES
The IONIQ 9 is built on Hyundai’s E-GMP architecture, featuring an optimized powertrain with a two-stage inverter for efficiency and an enhanced gear ratio for hill climbing. Its fully encapsulated powertrain reduces motor noise, while improved acoustic glass and reinforced body elements minimize road and wind noise inside the cabin.

The platform includes a high-capacity, high-voltage battery for extended range, a flat floor for added passenger comfort, and a strong body structure for optimal crash energy distribution.

The IONIQ 9 is Hyundai’s first model with aluminum fenders and quarter panels for reduced weight and improved efficiency. It also features a dual-motion active air flap system, a new rolling-type pin-lift door hinge for better fit, and an electric hood latch for easier access to the front trunk.

LARGE-CAPACITY BATTERY DELIVERS IMPRESSIVE RANGE AND PERFORMANCE
The IONIQ 9 features a high-voltage, floor-mounted NCM lithium-ion battery with 110.3 kWh of system energy, providing an estimated WLTP all-electric range of 620 km and an energy consumption of 194 Wh/km for the Long-Range RWD model with 19-inch wheels. It charges from 10 to 80 percent in just 24 minutes with a 350 kW charger and offers vehicle-to-load (V2L) convenience and 400V/800V multi-charging capability.

The Long-Range RWD model is powered by a 160 kW rear motor, while the Long-Range AWD model adds a 70 kW front motor. The Performance AWD models feature 160 kW motors at both the front and rear.

In terms of performance, the Performance model accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds, the Long-Range AWD in 6.7 seconds, and the Long-Range RWD in 9.4 seconds. For mid-range acceleration (80 to 120 km/h), the Performance model takes 3.4 seconds, the Long-Range AWD takes 4.8 seconds, and the Long-Range RWD takes 6.8 seconds.
