A 911 2.4S from 1973 is a hard find. A one owner car with very low mileage makes the search even harder. And if your want an accident and rust free specimen in the country, look some where else. It was truly fortunate that we were presented with the only one such specimen in the country. Not missing the opportunity, our tow truck and mechanics were immediately sent to recover the car. As it had not been started for many years, we were not surprised if the car would not start and decided to transport the 911 back to our workshop instead of trying to get it started on site.
Work went under way to begin restoration. After close inspection, decision was made to recondition rather than to replace. Again, think optimize instead of reengineer. What made the task less troublesome was the condition the car. There was no rust ANYWHERE on the body and even the under body coat remains preserved alongside the factory color. The dampers still had 70% of its moment rate and the original fuel tank resembles a new unit from the factory. The leather has not a single scratch and the seats preserve their color and feel.
Accessories and profiles were removed and reconditioned. The plywood pedal rests were not replace but using its intact plys, reformed under a pressurized jig with commercial fillers. Head lamps and chrome bits were burred to restore shine and those parts that oxidize were chemical treated. Once the body was revived off its grime, mud and dust, the components are reassembled the next part of its journey begins.
