PLANO, Texas (Jan. 7, 2025) – Look out, the Toyota Prius lineup is expanding with a new Nightshade grade. Based on the XLE, it features 19-inch black alloy wheels, black exterior accents, and exclusive Karashi paint, along with Midnight Black Metallic and Wind Chill Pearl options, giving the sedan a bold and moody vibe.

The 2025 Prius comes in four grades: LE, XLE, Nightshade, and Limited. It’s powered by Toyota's fifth-generation hybrid system and a 2.0L engine, delivering 194 horsepower in FWD models and 196 horsepower in AWD versions. Fuel efficiency is impressive, with an EPA-estimated 57 MPG combined for FWD and 54 MPG combined for AWD.

Buyers can choose from seven colors, including the Nightshade-exclusive Karashi. Pricing starts at $28,350 for the LE grade, excluding dealer fees.

Stellar Efficiency with Fifth Gen THS
The 2025 Prius pairs a 2.0L engine with Toyota’s fifth-gen Hybrid System (THS 5) for 194 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 7.2 seconds (FWD). Its advanced electric motors charge a lithium-ion battery for responsive performance and efficiency.

An Electronically Controlled Brake system blends regenerative and hydraulic braking to boost fuel economy. EV mode allows short electric-only drives, with a notification system to alert pedestrians in battery mode.

With the push of a button, the 2025 Prius also comes with standard selectable Drive modes:
- NORMAL: Allows the hybrid system to achieve an ideal combination of fuel economy and vehicle acceleration. The accelerator opening amount changes linearly in response to accelerator pedal operation.
- ECO: Improves hybrid system efficiency by limiting power in response to light to moderate accelerator pedal input.
- SPORT: Enhances dynamic performance and acceleration.

Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive
The 2025 Prius offers an available Electronic On-Demand AWD system on all grades, providing extra traction and stability in slippery or cornering conditions. It uses a rear-mounted electric motor for added power when needed, delivering 196 horsepower and a 0-60 time of 7.0 seconds.

A compact IPM motor powers the rear wheels, reducing wheel spin and enhancing stability. The system preemptively adjusts torque distribution to improve traction during starts, reduce understeer, and boost cornering agility. Sensors and precise electronic controls ensure optimal front-rear torque distribution for stable and efficient driving.

Intelligent Technology
The 2025 Toyota Prius offers advanced connectivity and convenience features with an 8-inch Toyota Audio Multimedia screen on LE and XLE grades and a 12.3-inch screen standard on Nightshade and Limited grades. The system supports Over-the-Air updates and features touch and voice controls.

With available Drive Connect*, users can access Intelligent Assistant, Cloud Navigation with Google POI data, and 24/7 Destination Assist. Standard wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ compatibility and dual Bluetooth® phone connectivity are included.

A JBL® Premium Audio system with eight speakers is standard on the Limited grade, while LE and XLE grades come with a six-speaker system. Six USB-C ports ensure all device charging needs are met, with two in the front console, two in the center console, and two for rear passengers.

The Prius offers Wi-Fi Connect* with a 1-month trial, turning it into a 4G hotspot for up to five devices, and supports Apple Music® and Amazon Music® streaming. It also includes HD Radio®, USB data, and a SiriusXM® 3-month trial.

Safety Connect* provides 24/7 roadside assistance, emergency SOS, and a stolen vehicle locator, while Service Connect* delivers vehicle health reports and maintenance alerts, both with 10-year trials.

Remote Connect, available with a one-year trial, lets users control locks, lights, and engine start via the Toyota app. Digital Key* functionality is included for XLE and Limited grades, allowing keyless access and control via smartphone.

Safety & Convenience
The Toyota Prius comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. The suite includes:
- Pre-Collision System w/ Pedestrian Detection (PCS w/PD): Detects vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, offering warnings and automatic braking if needed.
