>> Embodies Lexus’ new design language, inspired by the next-generation BEV concept, LF-ZC
>> Offers all-around ride comfort that ES has always been known for, while providing a luxurious in-cabin experience for all passengers
SHANGHAI (April 23, 2025) — The all-new 2026 Lexus ES debuted at the Shanghai Auto Show, marking the eighth generation of the luxury sedan. The lineup includes hybrid and the first ES battery electric vehicle (BEV) options, with both front- and all-wheel drive.
First launched in 1989, the redesigned ES follows the “Experience Elegance and Electrified Sedan” concept, aiming for a refined, quiet ride and improved comfort. Its design, inspired by the LF-ZC BEV concept, signals a bold new era for Lexus.
With sleek, flowing lines and a focus on elegant proportions, the new ES offers a welcoming and emotional driving experience.
Lexus, a pioneer in electrified luxury since 2005, continues its push under the “Lexus Electrified” vision, expanding its hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and BEV offerings.
The 2026 ES is the second of three new Lexus BEVs launching by March 2026 and is part of a broader brand transformation set to be unveiled at the 2025 Japan Mobility Show.
DESIGN: CLEAN TECH x ELEGANCE
New sedan proportions balance deepening ES identity
The new ES debuts Lexus’ “Clean Tech x Elegance” design concept, refining its signature elegance with a minimalist, functional aesthetic. Inspired by the LF-ZC BEV concept, the design balances bold presence with refined proportions enabled by underfloor battery placement.
With a trunkless silhouette, tapered rear cabin, and sculpted lower body, the ES achieves sleek, dynamic proportions. Millimeter-precise tire placement creates a wide, low stance. A sharply defined spindle shape flows from hood to bumper, combining a low nose with horizontal fenders for a grounded look; hybrid models include a slim upper grille for cooling.
Its streamlined side profile minimizes height perception, while enhanced shoulders and a tapering rear emphasize agility. The rear’s sculpted flow and low center of gravity reinforce a dynamic stance.
New Twin L-Signature Lamps feature inward daytime lights and outward turn signals, enhancing identity and clarity. At the rear, an illuminated Lexus logo and L-shaped light bar complete a striking look, with lighting positioned to highlight width and form.
An interior offering comfort for all occupants
The redesigned ES cabin aims to deliver an exceptional sedan experience, with an extended body and wheelbase for added space. A higher seating position improves entry and visibility, while slim seats and lowered window frames enhance openness and visibility, following the “Clean Tech x Elegance” concept.
The new Executive Package, available on the ES 350e FWD Luxury model, introduces reclining rear seats with a passenger ottoman, massage functions, and seat ventilation—offering a more luxurious rear cabin. Innovative materials debut in the door trim: Bamboo Layering, created with 3D printing, and Synthetic Leather Embossing, both enhanced by Thematic Ambient Illumination. The Mark Levinson® Surround Sound System adds an immersive audio experience.
The cockpit features Lexus’ tazuna concept, focusing on a driver-centered layout. A low-profile hood and 12.3-inch display create an open feel, complemented by premium materials and ambient lighting. The ES introduces the latest Lexus Interface multimedia system, with a 14-inch touchscreen, split-screen functionality, and faster voice assistant. Wireless Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and dual Bluetooth® connections come standard.
A DIVERSE POWERTRAIN LINEUP
The new ES was designed to deliver a relaxing, refined experience for all passengers, enhancing its trademark quietness and ride comfort. Lexus has also optimized driving dynamics by leveraging the unique traits of both HEV and BEV powertrains.
Built on a redesigned TNGA GA-K platform, the ES gains increased rigidity in the front, floor, and rear for reduced vibrations and sharper steering. The result is smooth, responsive handling that feels agile despite the vehicle’s size. For the first time, the ES features a multi-link rear suspension and MacPherson strut front suspension, improving traction and vehicle stability.
ES 350h
The ES 350h offers enhanced power performance, along with the availability of an AWD model. The sixth-generation 2.5-liter hybrid system features an integrated eAxle combining the power control unit and transaxle, contributing to a more compact and lightweight powertrain, while also achieving higher battery output.
Additionally, the reinforced rigidity of the power unit helps suppress vibrations, contributing to a quieter, more refined cabin experience.
All-new ES 350e and 500e
The BEV lineup offers two models: the ES 350e front-wheel drive model and the ES 500e all-wheel drive model.
A large-capacity battery is positioned beneath the floor to lower the center of gravity and enhance driving stability. Furthermore, the ES 500e is equipped with DIRECT4 AWD, an intelligent all-wheel drive system that continuously adjusts torque distribution to all four wheels based on road conditions and driving inputs. The system uses a drive force ratio between the front and rear wheels, ranging from 100:0 to 0:100. This enhances acceleration from a standstill, provides greater handling stability and contributes to great energy efficiency.
The ES 350e has a manufacturer-estimated range rating of 300 miles when equipped with 19” wheels.
LEXUS SAFETY SYSTEM+
The ES is the first Lexus model to receive the Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 (LSS+ 4.0). The new version of Lexus’ active safety suite will have updates to its hardware and detection capabilities.
The 2026 ES will go on sale next year. Additional details for LSS+ 4.0, as well as full vehicle specs and pricing will be available closer to launch.
