At last minutes’ notice, a motley crew of Porsches, Mercs and Nissans made headwinds to the sea. This round we were invited for yachting at Port Dickson. Seeing as Sunday morning was destined to be monotonous at home, why not, let’s go. Also a very rare occasion was the meeting of two Boxster Spyders together at one spot. Very illusive creatures year round, this time we had the pleasure of two.
As time passes, the need to go fast is replaced by the sense of comradery and an appreciation for all things automobiles. Like sipping fine wine, the art has transitioned to savoring the journey, taking in every moment. Through the rumbles of the V8s or baritone bark of flat sixes, each pilot helming either mid or front engine, all or rear wheel drive, grins widely at the clockwork of their metal.
Breakfast is the occasion to exchange notes on driving feel, tire pressure or handling characteristics. Today the ocean seems more emerald than usual. Maybe the colors become more vivid when you take your time.
So after breakie its time to board the boat. The skies were perfect and it reflected off the calm seas. As the 80 foot yatch left berth, it was like a Rolls Royce strutting out from valet. As we hit the open seas, the captain opened up the throttle and soon we were aiming for the horizon with sea breeze blowing through our hair. What calming effect that is. It’s one thing to see the world from a car’s perspective, now that we are in the water looking back at the land, it seems so foreign.
After a therapeutic hour at sea we finally returned refreshed and reenergized. With grace, the captain and his crew skillfully position the multi-ton ship to berth and the automated bridge is extended. Till now we still can’t get over how well equipped these luxury yachts are. Many times, surpassing the interior décor standards of real homes.
Maybe its chemistry but anything with an engine seems to get the members revving high. The drive home was much quicker! Big thanks to Simpson Marine for hosting us and the bespoke services, best in class.
